I admit it’s a depressing title. But it is important that we keep shouting about this. The Hoard Book is here to help you to teach your child those essential financial literacy skills – because as this article shows, they’re not going to learn it at school.
‘Only 33% of primary school children receive some financial education, while just 39% of secondary school students said they received any financial training’
While there is lots of work going on behind the scenes, it’s likely to take years to see that change. In the meantime, parents need to make sure they are teaching these skills themselves. And that can be tough – they may feel they lack the time, skills, or knowledge to do it. A recent MaPs survey showed that only 24% of children remember getting taught key financial skills at home.
But those who do receive a meaningful financial education are more likely to:
- Feel confident about managing their money
- Save more money
- To have a bank account they use
- Have positive attitudes towards money
- To have positive day to day money management skills, such as shopping around (even more so if they are taught at school AND at home)
So we’re going to keep shouting about it – teach your child about money! And we believe that a Hoard Book subscription can help you do it in a fun way, that keeps their carefree childhood and doesn’t burden them.
